Authorship Criteria and Contributions
1. Authorship Criteria
To qualify for authorship in Pharmademica, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:
1. Substantial Contributions to the Work: The individual has made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of the data.
2. Drafting or Critical Revision of the Manuscript: The individual has participated in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
3. Final Approval: The individual has approved the final version of the manuscript to be published.
4. Accountability: The individual agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Individuals must satisfy all four criteria to be listed as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should not be included in the author list but may be acknowledged for their specific contributions, where appropriate and with their consent.
2. Unacceptable Authorship Practices
Pharmademica does not permit the following unethical authorship practices:
- Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who have made qualifying contributions to the research and manuscript from the author list.
- Gift or Guest Authorship: Including individuals who do not meet the established authorship criteria, regardless of their academic position, professional status, supervisory role, or personal relationship with the authors.
All listed authors must have made genuine scholarly contributions and must accept responsibility for their respective roles in the work.
3. Contributions That Generally Warrant Acknowledgment
Contributions that do not independently satisfy all four authorship criteria should be acknowledged rather than used as the sole basis for authorship. Such contributions may include:
1. Providing access to laboratory facilities, equipment, or research materials without substantial intellectual involvement.
2. Obtaining funding or providing general administrative or institutional support.
3. Providing language editing, proofreading, or technical assistance without substantive intellectual contributions to the manuscript.
4. Collecting data without participating in the interpretation or analysis of the data, manuscript preparation, or critical intellectual revision.
5. Providing general supervision, holding an academic or administrative position, or approving research documents without fulfilling all authorship criteria.
Acknowledgments should describe the specific contributions of the individuals concerned. Their permission should be obtained before their names are included in the acknowledgment section.
4. Author Order and Corresponding Author
The order of authors should be determined collectively by all authors before submission and should reflect their respective contributions, disciplinary conventions, and mutually agreed responsibilities.
- First Author: Generally, the individual who has made the greatest contribution to the research and manuscript preparation.
- Corresponding Author: The author responsible for communicating with the journal throughout submission, peer review, publication, and any subsequent correspondence concerning the article. The corresponding author is also responsible for ensuring that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript and agree with the author list and order.
- Last Author: In some research disciplines, particularly in biomedical and health sciences, the last author often serves as the senior researcher or principal supervisor. However, this position should reflect the actual contributions and conventions of the relevant discipline and should not be assigned solely on the basis of academic rank or supervisory status.
The author order must be agreed upon by all authors. Any change to the author list or author order after submission must be justified, approved by all affected authors, and authorized by the editorial team in accordance with the journal's policies.
5. Authors' Responsibilities
All authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the research and manuscript. Each author must be able to identify their own contributions and cooperate in resolving any questions concerning the work's accuracy, validity, or ethical integrity.
The corresponding author must ensure that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria, that no eligible contributor is improperly excluded, and that all relevant disclosures and declarations are completed accurately.
By submitting a manuscript to Pharmademica, the corresponding author confirms that all authors have approved the final manuscript, agreed to its submission, and accepted responsibility for their contributions to the work.
Pharmademica reserves the right to request clarification of authorship and individual contributions when necessary. Suspected authorship disputes or violations of authorship ethics will be handled in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and applicable publication ethics guidelines.
