The Effect of Video and Leaflet-Based Education on Beyond Use Date Knowledge Among Outpatients at dr. Gondo Suwarno Regional Hospital Semarang Regency

Beyond Use Date (BUD) is important information related to the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medications after the original package has been opened or the medication has been compounded. Limited patient knowledge regarding BUD and proper medication storage may increase the risk of unsafe medication use. This study aimed to compare patients' knowledge of Beyond Use Date (BUD) and medication storage after receiving educational interventions using video and leaflet media at the Outpatient Pharmacy Installation of RSUD dr. Gondo Suwarno. This study used a Posttest-Only Nonequivalent Groups method, which is a quasi-experimental method. A total of 744 respondents were collected through inadvertent sampling and divided into two groups: 372 in the leaflet education group and 372 in the video education group. Patients' knowledge was assessed using a validated and reliable posttest questionnaire, and the findings were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The findings demonstrated that the video education group had a greater percentage of right answers in the majority of knowledge domains related to drug storage and Beyond Use Date (BUD) (p < 0.05). Additionally, there was a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001) in the percentage of respondents with a good level of understanding between the video group (87.30%) and the leaflet group (75.80%). The findings suggest that patients who received education through video media demonstrated better knowledge of Beyond Use Date (BUD) and medication storage than those who received education through leaflet media.
