Salicylic acid is a commonly used active ingredient in acne skin care products. Concentrations that exceed safe limits can cause irritation or toxic effects. This study aims to analyze the content and levels of salicylic acid in anti-acne facial serums circulating online in Samarinda City using UV-Visible spectrophotometric method. This analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative testing. Qualitative tests were performed using FeCl₃ reagent and thin layer chromatography (KLT), while quantitative tests were performed by UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a maximum wavelength of 306 nm. The results showed that most of the samples contained salicylic acid. The levels obtained ranged from 0.10% to 2.01%. All samples met the maximum limit set by BPOM RI, which is 2%. Validation of the method showed qualified results for linearity having a value of r = 0.9943, accuracy was in the range of 83.028 to 96.242%, and precision had a value of 0.927%. Thus, the anti-acne serum products analyzed in this study are relatively safe based on their salicylic acid levels, but supervision of cosmetic products is still needed, especially those sold online.
